Paramedical Examinations |

What is a Paramedical Examination? |
Before an insurance policy can be issued, a paramedical exam usually consisting of a blood and urine sample must be submitted to the insurance company to assess your risk. In other cases, an ECG may be needed. The medical requirements are determined by the specifications the insurance company underwriters you are applying for. A paramedical exam takes most examiners about 30 minutes to complete under most circumstances. |

The Blood Draw. |
If your insurance policy requires a blood draw, then you may wish to follow these pointers: As a general rule, be prepared to fast (no food only, drink lots of water) for 6 hours for optimal results. 1) Refrain from alcohol 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. 2) DO NOT smoke or chew any tobacco products 1 hour prior. 3) DO NOT exercise 12 hours prior. Only your insurance company is able to access your laboratory and paramedical reports. All others are not permitted to view, collect, or send you your laboratory results except the testing laboratory and your insurance company underwriting department. All company paramedical examiners have extensive phlebotomy training. |
The Urine Test. |
If your insurance policy requires a urine test, then you may wish to follow these pointers:
1) Drink 3 large glasses of water before the arrival of your paramedical examiner. 2) Avoid strenuous activity 1 hour prior. |

Tips to help your paramedical examiner completed a quick appointment and get you on your way to your family and/or your busy lifestyle.
1) Prepare information prior to the exam on your primary care physician and all physicians you have seen in the last 10 years. This information should include dates, reasons, treatments, and any other pertinent information related to your visits. 2) If you take medications, bring their bottles to your appointment. 3) Get a good night sleep prior to the appointment day. 4) Avoid any caffeine for several hours prior. 5) Have a Government issued photo ID available. 6) Wear a short sleeve shirt to assist in obtaining blood pressure readings and a blood draw if necessary. 7) If you require a large blood pressure cuff or your weight is over normal scale capacity, please notify us so we may have the correct equipment at the time of your appointment. |
